Why is Maccy free?
Maccy was built by a developer who wanted a simple, fast clipboard manager and open-sourced it so everyone could benefit.
MIT-licensed open source
The source code is public on GitHub. Anyone can inspect, fork, or contribute. Transparency is a feature — you can verify exactly what runs on your Mac.
No ads, no analytics, no tracking
Maccy stores all clipboard data locally on your Mac. It never phones home, never sends usage data, and does not require an account. See the full privacy policy.
Voluntary sponsorship
If Maccy saves you time, you can support the developer via GitHub Sponsors. It is entirely optional. The app will never nag you, lock features, or prompt upgrades.
Pricing questions
How much does Maccy cost?
Maccy is completely free. There is no paid version, no subscription, and no feature unlock. Download it from the download page or install via Homebrew.
Is there a free trial or limited version?
No. The free download is the full version — not a trial, not a lite tier. Every feature, including iCloud sync and pinned items, is available from the first launch with no time limit.
Will Maccy ever become paid?
The MIT licence means Maccy can never be made proprietary. Even if the project were sold or abandoned, the existing open-source codebase would remain free. The current standalone version will always be available.
What is the difference between direct download and Setapp?
Functionally none — both give you the same app. Setapp is a subscription bundle of many Mac apps. If you already subscribe, Maccy is included. If not, just download Maccy free directly. See the full comparison.
How do I support the developer?
The best support is spreading the word. The developer also accepts voluntary sponsorships via GitHub. There is no obligation — Maccy will never show donation prompts or nag screens.
Can I use Maccy in a commercial or enterprise environment?
Yes. The MIT licence explicitly permits commercial use, redistribution, and modification. IT teams can deploy Maccy via MDM or include it in provisioning scripts using the Homebrew cask.
Ready to try it?
Takes under a minute to install. Free forever. Your clipboard history is waiting.
