Privacy at a glance
- The Maccy app keeps your clipboard history on your Mac. It is never sent to us — we run no server that could receive it.
- The app has no analytics, no telemetry, no ads, and no tracking, and it ignores password-manager entries by default.
- Optional iCloud sync moves your pinned items between your own Apple devices through Apple — we never see them.
- This website uses privacy-respecting analytics (Google Analytics and Ahrefs) to understand traffic. You can opt out.
- We do not sell your data. We never have.
1.Overview & scope
This Privacy Policy explains how the Maccy clipboard manager (the “App”) and the website at maccymanager.com (the “Site”, together the “Services”) handle information. It is published by [legal entity / maintainer name] (“we”, “us”).
Maccy is built on a simple principle: your clipboard belongs to you. The App is designed to keep your data on your own device. This document describes that design precisely, and is transparent about the limited, standard measurement performed by the Site.
By using the Services you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Services.
2.The Maccy application
The App is a native macOS utility that records items you copy so you can find and reuse them later. With respect to that data:
- Local storage only. Your clipboard history is stored in a database on your device (
~/Library/Application Support/Maccy) and your settings in a preferences file (org.p0deje.Maccy.plist). It remains under your control. - No collection by us. We do not collect, receive, transmit, store, sell, or otherwise access your clipboard contents or history. We operate no server that receives this data.
- No telemetry. The App contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting service, no advertising identifier, and no usage tracking.
- Concealed data is ignored. By default the App ignores transient and concealed pasteboard types — including those marked by password managers such as 1Password, Bitwarden, and Apple Passwords — so credentials are not recorded. You may add further apps or types to an ignore list in Settings.
- System permissions. The App requests Accessibility permission solely to paste an item into the app you are using. This permission is not used to observe, log, or transmit your activity.
Optional iCloud sync
If you choose to enable iCloud sync, pinned items are synchronised between your own Apple devices through Apple iCloud. That transfer is performed by Apple under Apple’s infrastructure and encryption; we have no access to the synced content. Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Sync is off unless you turn it on.
Obtaining and updating the App
When you download, install, or update the App through the Mac App Store, Homebrew, or GitHub, the relevant provider may process information (such as your IP address or account details) under its own privacy policy. We do not receive identifiable information about individual downloads from these channels.
3.The website (maccymanager.com)
The Site is informational. You can browse it without creating an account or submitting personal data.
Information you provide
If you contact us (for example, by email or by opening an issue on our public repository), we receive the information you choose to share, such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message. Anything posted to our public repository is, by nature, public.
Information collected automatically
- Server and hosting logs. Our hosting provider [hosting provider] may automatically log standard request data — IP address, browser type and version, referring pages, and timestamps — to operate and secure the Site.
- Analytics. The Site uses third-party analytics to understand aggregate traffic and improve content, as described in Sections 4 and 5.
5.Third-party services (processors)
We rely on a small number of reputable providers. Each processes data only as needed to deliver its service and under its own privacy policy:
- Google Analytics — Site traffic analytics. See Google’s Privacy Policy. Opt out with Google’s browser add-on.
- Apple — optional iCloud sync and Mac App Store distribution. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- GitHub — source code hosting and release downloads. See GitHub’s Privacy Statement.
- Homebrew — optional command-line distribution channel.
- [hosting provider] — Site hosting and delivery.
6.How we use information
We use the limited information described above to:
- operate, maintain, and secure the Site;
- understand aggregate usage and improve the App, the Site, and our documentation;
- respond to your enquiries and support requests; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not build advertising profiles.
7.Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process personal data on the following legal bases under the GDPR / UK GDPR:
- Legitimate interests — operating and securing the Site and measuring aggregate traffic, balanced against your rights;
- Consent — where required for non-essential cookies or analytics; you may withdraw it at any time;
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with applicable law.
9.International data transfers
Our providers may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where personal data is transferred out of the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent mechanism offered by the relevant provider.
10.Data retention
App data stays on your device for as long as you keep it. You can delete individual entries, clear the entire history, or remove the support folder at any time; uninstalling the App and deleting its data removes it entirely.
Site logs and analytics are retained only as long as necessary for the purposes above and then deleted or aggregated. Analytics data is retained for no longer than [e.g., 14 months] unless a longer period is required by law.
11.Security
The App keeps data local and ignores concealed pasteboard types by default. The Site is served over HTTPS, and we apply reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information under our control. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12.Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights. Note that, because the App stores your clipboard data only on your own device, we generally do not hold that data and cannot access it on your behalf.
EEA / UK (GDPR)
You may request access to, rectification of, or erasure of your personal data; restrict or object to processing; request portability; and withdraw consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
You may request to know, delete, or correct personal information we hold, and opt out of its “sale” or “sharing.” We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
How to exercise your rights
Contact us at [your contact email]. We will verify and respond to your request within the timeframe required by applicable law.
13.Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
14.Third-party links
The Site may link to third-party websites and resources, including GitHub, the Mac App Store, and humanitarian organisations. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites; we encourage you to review their policies.
15.Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “last updated” date below will reflect the latest revision, and material changes will be brought to your attention by reasonable means. Your continued use of the Services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
