Maccy Not Working on macOS Tahoe — Fix Guide
After updating to macOS 26 Tahoe, Maccy may stop pasting items or disappear from the menu bar. This is almost always an Accessibility permission reset — a 30-second fix. Here is every solution from the most common to the most advanced.
Most common fix: macOS Tahoe reset Accessibility permissions during the upgrade. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, toggle Maccy off and on, then relaunch Maccy. This resolves 90% of post-Tahoe issues.
Why macOS updates break clipboard managers
Every major macOS update can invalidate existing Accessibility permissions. Accessibility is how Maccy pastes items into other apps — without it, Maccy can still capture what you copy, but it cannot paste on your behalf. The symptom is that Maccy opens normally, you select an item, but nothing gets pasted.
This affects all clipboard managers and is not specific to Maccy. It is a macOS security measure: after an OS update, apps must re-earn sensitive permissions.
Fix 1: Re-grant Accessibility permission (fix for 90% of cases)
- Open System Settings (⌘ + Space, type “System Settings”)
- Navigate to Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Find Maccy in the list
- Toggle the switch off, then back on
- Quit Maccy completely: right-click the menu bar icon → Quit
- Relaunch Maccy from Applications
If Maccy is not in the Accessibility list, click the + button at the bottom, navigate to /Applications/Maccy.app, and add it. Then enable it.
Fix 2: Restart Maccy after granting permission
Sometimes the permission change does not take effect until Maccy is fully restarted. Use Activity Monitor to confirm the process has exited, or run:
killall Maccy && sleep 1 && open /Applications/Maccy.app
Fix 3: Maccy does not appear in the Accessibility list
This can happen if Maccy has never been granted Accessibility permission on this Mac (or if the permission database was reset). The fix:
- Open Maccy from Applications
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Click + and add Maccy manually
- Enable it
- Relaunch Maccy
Fix 4: Reset Maccy preferences (advanced)
If Maccy opens but behaves strangely after the update, try resetting preferences:
defaults delete com.p0deje.Maccy
This resets all preferences to defaults (history size, shortcut, ignored apps). Your clipboard history is stored separately and is not affected. After running this command, relaunch Maccy and reconfigure your preferences.
macOS Tahoe: conflict with Spotlight clipboard history
macOS 26 Tahoe added a basic clipboard history inside Spotlight. This does not conflict with Maccy — both tools can run simultaneously. However, if you notice unexpected behaviour, try disabling the Tahoe feature: System Settings → Spotlight → Clipboard History → Off. Then test Maccy independently.
Maccy version compatibility
Maccy 2.7.3 supports macOS 14 Sonoma and later, which includes macOS 26 Tahoe. If you are running an older version of Maccy, download the latest version from the official site. Older versions may have permission or notarisation issues on newer macOS.
More questions
Maccy captures clipboard but does not paste — how to fix?
This is an Accessibility permission issue. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, toggle Maccy off and on, and relaunch the app.
Maccy disappeared from the menu bar after macOS update
macOS Tahoe changed how menu bar items are managed. Open Maccy from Applications directly. Once running, it should reappear. If it does not: go to Maccy Preferences → General and ensure “Show in menu bar” is checked.
Can I keep my clipboard history after updating macOS?
Yes. Maccy's history is stored in your user library and survives macOS updates. History is only lost if you explicitly clear it from Maccy Preferences, or if you reset Maccy's preferences with defaults delete.
Maccy shortcut stopped working after Tahoe update
Re-grant Accessibility permission (Fix 1 above). If the shortcut still does not work, check System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts to ensure no other app has claimed Cmd+Shift+C. You can change Maccy's shortcut in Maccy Preferences → General.
